Why is 'validate against' required?

IDS specs assert requirements about model elements; without a model there's nothing to validate. The picker only shows IFC and Autodesk APS sources from the same project.

Where does the validation run?

In-process on iDBQuery's backend, via ifctester (the buildingSMART reference engine). No spec or model leaves your iDBQuery workspace.

Yes — Resync on the source page re-runs the validation against the current target model. Useful after the model is re-issued.

What if I want to swap which model is validated?

Patch the target source from the source page. The next sync runs against the new target.

Why teams connect IDS (Information Delivery Specification) to iDBQuery

IDS is buildingSMART's open standard for declaring information requirements (e.g. 'every IfcWall must have a Pset_WallCommon.LoadBearing flag'). iDBQuery runs IDS specs server-side using ifctester, against a linked IFC or Autodesk APS source you pick at upload time. Findings land in ids_findings, keyed by element_guid (IfcGuid), so they JOIN directly to your model's elements. The source page shows pass-rate per spec, recent failures with reason, and the linked target model. No third-party SaaS — the validation runs in-process.

Project → Add source → IDS. The picker requires you to pick the IFC or APS source to validate against — IDS specs need a model to run on.

Read the report

Source page shows total pass-rate + per-spec breakdown + recent failures. Click a finding to see the failed property, expected value, and what the model actually had.
