What is reverse ETL?
Reverse ETL is the process of copying data out of a data warehouse back into operational tools, such as CRMs, ad platforms or support apps, so teams can act on analytics inside the systems they use daily. It is the reverse of loading data into the warehouse for analysis.
Traditional ETL/ELT moves data from operational systems into a warehouse for analysis. Reverse ETL sends the modelled results the other way, back into the tools where work happens.
Typical uses:
- Syncing a computed customer health score into the CRM.
- Activating an audience segment into an ad platform.
- Enriching support tickets with warehouse data.
Reverse ETL is an operational-activation pattern; it assumes you already have a warehouse and want to push its outputs into apps. It adds yet another pipeline to build and monitor.
iDBQuery serves a different need, answering questions from your data rather than syncing rows between systems. Instead of pushing pre-computed metrics into another tool, iDBQuery lets anyone ask a question in plain language across your live sources and get a cited answer, chart or shareable report on demand. It is complementary: if reverse ETL keeps your operational tools populated, iDBQuery is where people go to understand and interrogate the underlying data, without writing SQL and without another pipeline to maintain.
